IPNA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS

IPNA sponsors fellowship training programs in Cape Town & Johannesburg. Applications are considered twice a year in April and October.

AFPNA PROGRAMS

Monthly journal club/academic meetings. 

These occur in the Johannesburg/ Gauteng region on a monthly basis with collaboration of paediatric nephrologists from Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding regions, both from a state and private practice point of view.  These meetings have been  most useful and have provided a good platform for dialogue. 

Outreach  programs 

The University of Cape Town has been doing an outreach program to the Eastern Cape/ Umtata region.  Under the auspices of the Colleges of Medicine (Paeds), a paediatric nephrology weekend was held at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in the Eastern Cape.  This long weekend started on the Wednesday morning and consisted of clinical patient review, lectures, case study discussions as well as medical student and trainee/ registrar teaching.  Lectures were well attended by disciplines outside of paediatric nephrology including general paediatrics as well as adult medicine.  In addition to this, numerous shared care patients were seen at the clinic.  These patients were also used (with their consent) to teach  both  students as well as more senior trainees/ registrars.
